Salt is a Nutrient. Don’t Skimp On the Salt!

Hold on here. Really? My high-priced cardiologist says that I should limit my salt. So does the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association and just about any American you ask. Salt is the enemy and the cause of raging high blood pressure, strokes and aneurysms – or have you been lied to! (I’ll let you guess which one is true.)

Salt Is An Essential Nutrient

When a food or nutrient is “essential,” this means your body cannot manufacture it, therefore you must obtain it through your diet or by supplementation. Take a look at these 11 incredible body functions that happen when you increase your body’s salt concentration:

  • Balanced electrolytes
  • Increases hydration
  • Balanced water content inside and outside of your cell – Balanced pH and production of HCL (stomach acid)
  • Fewer and less severe muscle cramps
  • Boosted metabolism (increased fat burning)
  • Lowered blood pressure
  • Stimulated absorption of nutrients
  • Balanced thyroid hormone
  • Enhanced circulation
  • Dissolves and eliminates toxins

Did one catch your eye? LOWERED BLOOD PRESSURE? Can it be? Here’s something you probably have not heard before: Its been estimated that roughly 80% of patients with high blood pressure are not getting enough salt in their diet. I know – crazy isn’t it! Their MD is screaming at them to stay away from salt, yet salt is the very thing that could completely remove their condition all together.

But before you start shoveling salt into your mouth, lets discuss the type of salt needed to provide healing (vs. the white table salt that you will hopefully stop using once you finish this article!)

Table Salt

Table salt is not actually salt. Instead, it is the byproduct of placing crude oil flakes into extreme heat (1200F) for long periods of time until the only thing remaining is sodium chloride. Commercial table salt often has added ingredients, such as anti-caking agents, iodine, MSG and even sugar. Trust me when I tell you (or go google this to confirm it), table salt IS NOT SALT! So when you hear your doctor say, “stay away from salt,” that statement only applies to table salt. Because it is highly processed, table salt does the EXACT OPPOSITE of the list above.

Sea Salt

Sea salt is just that – salt that has been extracted from ocean water. Celtic Sea Salt is by far one of the healthiest salts you can consume (which you should daily. Salt your food to your liking with this and don’t hold back! It’s good for you.). These salts often come with other benefits the oceans provide.

  • 60+ trace minerals that help to hydrate your cells and your body overall
  • Naturally-occurring Sodium (Na) that helps to balance your potassium ratios
  • Magnesium (muscle relaxer)
  • Trace sea elements for adrenal, immune and thyroid health
  • Naturally-occurring chlorides (Cl) that enhance digestion, produce stomach acid and enhance absorption of foods through your GI tract

Himalayan Salt

Harvested from the salt caves in the Punjab region of Pakistan, this salt has a classic pink color, mostly due to the 84 different earth elements found within the salt crystals. Iron being the one that provides the traditional hue. Once described as “pink gold,” this salt is claimed to be the purest salt available on the planet. In addition to salting your food with himalayan salt, can I make a suggestion for you (based on research and clinical experience)?

  • Consume 2 capsules of salt daily and watch your body rejuvenate from the inside out
  • Simply get empty capsules (Veggie Caps) from your local health food store and a canister of finely ground himalayan salt (the pink one)
  • Pack these two capsules full of the salt and swallow one 15 min before eating lunch and again at dinner.

Several published articles point out that the above suggestion will:

  • Regulate the water content throughout your body (often resulting in you eliminating retained fluids)
  • Promote healthy pH balance of your brain cells (after-all, they do a lot of work for us!)
  • Promote normal blood sugar and decrease insulin (which is an anti-aging secret)
  • Assist in hydroelectric energy production in your cells (if your tired, salt will light you up!)
  • Increase absorption of food particles in your body
  • Increases the following body functions: Sleep, respiration, sinus, muscle strength, bone strength & libido.
  • Decrease blood pressure

There’s no reason you shouldn’t be eating salt. More salt! Just make sure it’s not table salt.
