“So, God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God he created them, male and female He created them” – Genesis 1:27

You and I aren’t the only thing god made in a mirror image. I’m sure you know it’s important to eat healthy natural plants, due to their overall nutritional and anti-inflammatory nature, but did you know there is a unique subset of foods that literally mirror the parts of your body! It’s not just that they look similar either. Science has confirmed each carry unique nutritional healing qualities to their mirror organs as well.

Here’s a list (with visuals) so you can see just how thoughtful God was when he made these foods to support you!

1. Walnuts

Crack open a walnut shell and you can’t help but see how much they look like a human brain. Walnuts contain tons of omega-3 fatty acids that have a high concentration of DHA which has been shown to support brain function. In fact, DHA has been proven to protect brain health in newborns and improve cognitive function in adults. Walnuts also help with the development of over 3 dozen neuron-transmitters within the brain that enhance signaling and encourage new messaging links between brain cells. The fats and phytonutrients in walnuts are connected with the formation of over 36 neurotransmitters responsible for normal brain function. Additionally, they prevent the formation of protein plaques associated with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

2. Tomatoes

Slice through a tomato and it looks exactly like the inner chambers of your heart. They are loaded with lycopene, beta-carotene, vitamin C, Biotin, molybdenum, vitamin K, copper, potassium, manganese, folate and phosphorous – all essential nutrients for healthy heart function. Lycopene specifically, which gives tomatoes its red color, reduces the risk of heart disease in men and women. When you enjoy a tomato with healthy fats that you can find in olive oil or avocados, your body’s absorption of lycopene  is boosted nearly tenfold! Meanwhile potassium is responsible for lowering blood pressure by removing sodium from the body and relaxing the walls of your blood vessels.

3. Grapefruit

A cross section of grapefruit (and other citrus fruits) looks just like the mammary glands of the female breast. Citrus fruits assist in the secretion and flushing of lymphatic fluids. Grapefruit oil is 88-95% limonene which has a startling amount of research dating back to the 70s suggesting anti-cancer activity. Limonoids have also been shown to inhibit the development and growth of cancer! It also contains apigenin (a flavone) which has the potential to slow and prevent the formation of breast cancer cells according to a 2011 Canadian study.

4. Figs

AKA “The Testicle Fruit” figs form on the tree in pairs and the inner appearance is similar to a cross section through the male testicle. Consumption of figs have been known to increase sperm count and assist infertility and the overall male reproductive system. Figs have also been shown to increase the production of Testosterone. Due to the connection with amino acids, magnesium, and calcium, figs even have the power to help men overcome infertility.

5. Mushrooms

Mushrooms help the human body to produce vitamin D, an essential nu- trient for bone health – especially the tiniest of all bones – the auditory ossicles in the inner ear. These bones are no larger than a grain of rice and are responsible for your ability to hear. Vitamin D deficiency has been connected to hearing loss and tinnitus so eat up. BONUS: Mushrooms have 9 times more potassium than 1 banana and nearly 0 carbs!

6. Grapes

A cluster of grapes looks almost exactly like the alveoli of the lungs (which is the very end tip of your respiratory tract. Each sac/duct is where carbon dioxide is exchanged for oxygen during each breath). Grape seed extract is a widely used homeopathic therapy for asthma and other lung disorders as it significantly increases lung function, capacity and reduces inflammation within the respiratory system. Grape seed extract also has several published articles suggesting it is also a potent anti-cancer and cancer chemopreventative agent. Grapes have been shown to help the prevention of lung cancer and emphysema because grape skins contain a compound called resveratrol. Resveratrol has the ability to penetrate the center of a cell’s nucleus which allows DNA to repair free radical damage that might contribute to cancerous growths. If you buy seedless grapes, you might want to reconsider because grape seeds contain proanthocyanidins which can reduce the severity of allergy-triggered asthma! Grape seed extract is a widely used homeopathic therapy for asthma and other lung disorders as it significantly increases lung function, capacity, and reduces inflammation within the respiratory system. Grapes can be one of the best ways to clean out the lungs.

7. Sweet Potato

The external appearance of a medium sweet potato is much like that of the pancreas. Sweet potatoes contain about 36mg of chromium – an essential nutrient needed for Insulin to move sugar into a cell for energy. They also contain adiponectin, which is a protein hormone that is involved with regulating glucose levels as well as fatty acid breakdown. It’s produced by the fat cells in the body to lower levels that are associated with obesity, diabetes, and those with increased visceral fats. Sweet potatoes help to increase the blood levels of adiponectin which is a modulator in insulin metabolism. Low levels of adiponectin mean result in high levels of insulin resistance. As a result, sweet potatoes fall on the “Low Glycemic Index” score.

PS: Drinking the juice of raw sweet potatoes, or simply eating a sweet potato raw, is a common folk remedy for diabetes, high blood pressure and anemia.

These 7 are just a few of the dozens of naturally occurring foods that mirror parts of your body. I pray this information helps you to see just how fearfully and wonderfully created you are – never forget that!
